VOLUME 11, ISSUE 3: Adoption of the 2025 NYC Energy Conservation Code

The 2025 New York City Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC) has been adopted but will not be enforced until approximately March 30, 2026. This is due to updated compliance software not being readily available to the public just yet. In the meantime, the Department of Buildings will continue to enforce the 2020 NYCECC. Any change to the anticipated enforcement date will be communicated by the Department through a Service Update.

How it will affect New and Prior Projects:

New Projects – submitted on or after March 30, 2026, must comply with the 2025 NYCECC.

Prior Projects - filed before March 30, 2026, must comply with 2020 NYCECC.

Incomplete Filings – submitted before March 30, 2026, with incomplete energy analysis or that undergo a material compliance change after March 30, 2026, must comply with 2025 NYCECC.
